“Traditionally I create animals inspired by Art Deco and Art Nouveau and I add designs inspired by a variety of cultures. Working in museums as a designer for over 30 years has influenced my work. I created “Emergence” after seeing the most beautiful pose of a dancer in Paris. I was so taken by this pose that I had to incorporate it into my body of work. Because it was my first figurative piece I felt I was emerging into a new area of my journey.  It was wonderful to also reach out to her to show her my homage to her art form. It was like a closed flower preparing to open. The roots at the base are the creative spirit, designs rise up through the stem to the woman’s form, begging at her feet then traveling through her body.”

John Maisano is fascinated by the artistic designs found in Celtic, African, Inuit and Tribal art which he incorporates into his sculptures. Each sculpture is inscribed with intricate designs derived from natural forms and structures. His sculptures range in size from treasures that can be held in the palm of one’s hand to larger-than-life monuments. His work focuses on graceful interpretations of animals shaped in a way that captures the life force of each animal and transforms it into something more.
