“Beach Comber harkens back to my childhood and love of the shore. The shore is always full of life, many small and overlooked. I wanted to bring attention to the little hermit crab and adorn him with ancient designs to bring glory to him.”

John Maisano is fascinated by the artistic designs found in Celtic, African, Inuit and Tribal art which he incorporates into his sculptures. “Beach Comber” is inscribed with flowing shapes inspired by natural forms and structures. The maquette size is designed to be a treasure that can be held in the palm of one’s hand. The enlarged, monument version emphasizes the details, smooth shapes, and the core character of the hermit crab.
