“Wind River”

by: Gene & Rebecca Tobey

“Over the years, we hunted elk many times and developed a passion for observing them…A bull’s antlers may have six tines, weigh as much as forty pounds, and grow to a length and spread of more than four feet. He balances the antlers by raising his chin and tilting his head back as he walks or runs.

The title of the piece comes from Wyoming’s Wind River Range. The elk is covered with sgraffito drawings of elk, life spirals, humans, eagles, and geese, along with cutouts of a mask, hand, and fish.”
