“Prayer Request”

“The origin of this wonderful site is the belief in spirits, and these beliefs are what prompted ancient shamans to select petroglyph sites with care. For the magic to work, a spiritual essence needed to be present within the rocks and around each site. Many rock art sites were chosen for the natural shapes within the rocks. Formations and anomalies such as cracks, crevices, and holes in the rock surface inspired the creation of certain symbols & shapes. These natural rock formations were seen by shamans as doorways to the spirit world. Even after thousands of years exposed to the elements, the magic of these wonderful petroglyphs still survives. Bridging the fractures in the rock and managing to evade the damaging effects of lichen, these images still glow with a supernatural presence in the returning light of each day’s sunrise.

This sacred place is alive with the magic of ancient prayers and the requests of those that have passed through this world long ago. Their hand prints have held their prayers here and this has created a sacred place to outlast the ages. The source of magic lies within the handprints. Handprints create a strong human bond to the spirits. Placed upon the stone thousands of years ago, these handprint still hold a tinge of ancient shaman magic. Handprint magic endures because when a shaman etches the shape of his hand upon the rock he has identified himself to the spirits in a very personal way. This simple act creates a lasting prayer request to the spirits that reside there.”
