“Bubba”
by: Borowski$4,195.00
This hand-blown glass sculpture is available to order in the following colors: Violet & Lime Green. In popular belief, the fire salamander had an ambivalent reputation – both fascinating and feared. In antiquity, it was believed that it could live in fire without being burned. For alchemists, it represented the purifying, transformative element of fire.
Today, many people feel primarily fascination and respect at the sight of his strikingly contrasting skin and his serene movements. He is rarely encountered – he appears mysterious, calm, strong-willed, and as exotic as a being from another planet. Given this profile, it was practically inevitable that Borowski’s glass artists would turn their attention to the salamander. Bubba captures its fascination and exoticism – and translates it into glass. But this salamander is not to be feared – quite the opposite!
The plump, overly ample body is accentuated by attractive contrasting stripes. The short, curled tail stands out amusingly. And then there’s the head: elliptically shaped, with round eyes that seem to gaze at you brightly and curiously. It’s somewhat reminiscent of a charming retro sci-fi alien from the 1950s – friendly, inquisitive, and completely harmless. In its surroundings, Bubba acts like a special guest – striking, yet charming. Among plants in the garden, on natural stone, or near a water feature, it makes a deliberate statement. Its exotic appearance is ever-present, yet never seems out of place or contrived. This is thanks to its rounded shape and alert, almost friendly gaze. It creates an immediate sense of connection and warmth – you might even have to resist the urge to pick it up!
