“Spiritual Bond”

Glistening like moonlight upon calm water, a pair of shaman spirits emerge from the rock surface. Their elaborate robes and headdresses denote their spiritual strength and status. The powerful magic of these beings are supported by the bear and other sacred images and symbols etched into this ageless rock.

The trio of bear images here have been carefully etched with heart lines and symbols within their stylized bodies. This was done to honor the bear and to evoke its power, because the bear is one of the most revered animals in North America. Its image is a symbol of great strength, fierceness, and courage, and it is also known for its dangerous disposition. The bear is a magnificent animal and shamans sought its magic in hunting and times of war. In some ancient cultures, the bear was also considered to have powerful healing powers and its magic was used to cure illnesses and injuries.

As the moonlight soaks into these rocks, the bear and serpent images fade in and out of our vision, and the sapphire rocks shimmer with ancient images not visible in the harsh light of day. The reflected light of the moon reveals hidden images and the bond these shamans and their people have with the animal spirits of this place.

All of these fading images and symbols that glow upon this rocky canvas have survived hundreds if not thousands of years. These wonderful petroglyphs are a testament to the importance of the spiritual bond that the Native Americans have with animals and all of nature.
