“Rupert”
by: Kristin McDonald$1,375.00
Rupert was Kristin’s first sculpture and was born of an accident. Though it might be hard to see now, Rupert started out as a vase. When you are learning to sculpt there is a lot you don’t know. The armature (underneath support) she used was not strong enough for what was intended, and it broke in half. She had a lot of frustration with the botched artwork, but nothing in art is entirely ruined. A little time and self-expression later Rupert was born. Kristin has found since sculpting Rupert, she really enjoys sculpting faces and abstract expressions. Life does sometimes imitate art however, abstract or not, Kristin once caught pink eye from a friend’s child and looked very much like her Rupert, an accidental self-portrait in the moment.
Kristin McDonald’s artwork introduces the viewer to something truly whimsical and exciting. She does not shy away from topics bringing the viewer into a dream-like world and into the unknown. Working in a fine art foundry since 2005, she gained plenty of experience and skill applying patina to bronze sculptures which she truly thinks brings them to life. Now, she brings this talent into her own work.
