This art piece honors the Sun as a sacred force in Native American culture, a giver of life, light, and guidance through the cycles of time. It reflects the deep reverence for nature’s rhythms, where dawn was not only the start of a day but a spiritual renewal, binding people to the land and to the Great Spirit.
HERE COMES THE SUN
Here comes the Sun, over sacred stone,
Waking the earth where the old ones roamed.
They danced in the fire, they sang to the sky,
They painted the winds with the eagle’s cry.
Their stories were carved in the canyon’s skin,
Where the light of the morning would always begin.O Sun, great spirit, bringer of flame,
You gave us life, you knew our name.
In every dawn, our prayers were spun—
We lived and died beneath your drum.
Here comes the Sun, our ancient one,
The circle turns, the day’s begun. They healed by your warmth, they honored your rise,
Their faces turned upward, their hearts in the skies.
You fed the corn, you stirred the stream,
You lit their path through waking dreams.
Four winds you guided, four ways you showed,
In balance and rhythm, the people flowed. In winter’s hush, they called your light,
Through smoke and chant and starless night.
And when you came, the Earth would sing—
A sacred breath in everything.O Sun, great spirit, power and grace,
You shined through time, through every face.
Still we remember, still we run—
With hearts that rise…
Here comes the Sun.
