“American Bear”by: Gene & Rebecca Tobey
“When the United States of America went to war in Iraq in March 2003, Gene began to sculpt American Bear as a tribute to the men and women who serve our country. In addition, the sculpture reflects the spirit of the American people. On the bear’s back flies a large, highly polished eagle. The “heart line” (a zigzag pattern that looks like a lightening bolt) stretches from the eagle’s eye down to its wing. On each wing are human figures. A hunt scene crosses the bear’s chest. On his leg is the hand of man with a life spiral on the back of the hand.
The colors are subtle, iridescent red on the top, blending into white in the midsection and finishing with a cobalt blue/black on the feet – the red, white, and blue of the American flag.”
