Contemporary Pop Artist DeVon traces his artist lineage directly back to Andy Warhol. Through collaboration and mentoring with the late Steve Kaufman, who was the former art assistant to Andy Warhol, DeVon is directly descended from the father of American Pop Art. DeVon now carries the torch of Pop Art into the twenty-first century. Since emerging into the spotlight, DeVon’s work has been the subject of over sixty solo artist shows spanning the globe, making its way into museums, important private and corporate collections, and deep into the heart of art lovers everywhere.

Chances are that DeVon’s work has touched on one of your heroes. DeVon vividly explores the world of pop culture, comics, TV, movies, rock-and-roll, and the who’s who of cool. He immerses his audience into the most popular, expansive, and culturally permeating movements of our lifetime.

Sharing the same ground with twentieth century Pop Artists, DeVon merges painting with photography and other mixed media. He contextualizes new meaning from nostalgic icons by collaging the pages of modern magazines and books and then submerging the layers of images under a thick, glossy resin. The final layer of his work is often strewn with paint splatter and encrusted with diamond dust, glitter, and jewels. Just as his Pop Art predecessors elevated the so-called “low art” of comics and everyday consumer society into “high art”, DeVon’s work is thought of as a method of quotation, citation and commentary; an artistic “remix” that can be seen as a transformative work of creativity that forms part of the fabric of our wider cultural environment. He elevates iconic images into higher, even other-worldly realms where the figures become Gods and Goddesses and secular saints. He offers a witty view of modern society, filled with a strong sense of optimism. The finished pieces tell an emotional story, our favorite story, the story of the hero’s journey; which after all, is our own journey.
