The sapphire patina of this ancient place seems to add to the early morning chill. The shudder that gently shakes us is not the cold, but the nocturnal spirits moving around and through us. As the darkness begins to fade, we can see and feel some of these sacred images fading back into the spirit world, then others begin to emerge and their magic is awakened by the new day. The spirit of a medicine Shaman returns to our world, an image shimmering in the early light, her spirit is here with purpose. The cycle of magic and spiritual migration continues.

A medicine Shaman is etched here. The highly stylized robe and headdress denotes a powerful spiritual status. Attached to a staff of power is a medicine bag. Medicine bags contain sacred objects and artifacts that hold healing magic as well as powers of protection.

This returning healer is surrounded by spirit helpers of all types. One of these spirits is the Raven perched on her arm. The Raven is a bearer of powerful healing magic. This feathered spirit is also a messenger from the heavens and able to fly across the void with ease, bringing messages and healing knowledge from beyond.

The mystery of this place deepens when we discover the time worn image of the Owl. Often hidden, this wide-eyed creature draws our attention like a rhythmic thumping of a faraway drum. This nocturnal spirit is the essence of wisdom and possesses a powerful and sometimes dangerous magic. The Owl sees and hears all, even the smallest secrets are known to this watchful spirit of the night. Only an experienced Shaman would dare to evoke the magic of the Owl.

While many of these wonderful symbols and images have faded with time, the handprints have endured. When a Shaman places or etches their hand print upon the rock surface, he or she has identified their self in a very personal way. This act creates a strong magic that encourages the spirits to return.
