“Hopes & Dreams”

The story of this country and particularly the southwest is a story of migration and of people in search of a safe place to belong. This meticulously etched image of five figures riding the tail of two tightly wound spirals tells a story of the nomadic traditions of these ancient people.

These petroglyph images could be the record of tribes wanderings engraved upon the rocks. The number of circles may be a record of time, or a way to illustrate the length of s journey.  Etched into the rocky surface are the images of flute playing Kokopelli’s, antelope and many other sacred images and symbols of abundance and celebration.

This sacred place is filled with survival magic. This is evident by the reverently placed hand prints. When a shaman puts her hand prints upon the rooky surface, she is identifying herself personally to the spirits that reside here.  This act creates a string magic and a bind to the spirit world. This is the same magic these ancient people needed as they held on to the tail of a dream. Their path was difficult and twisted around and around, creating a tight spiral.  A journey that brought these wanderers to the center place, to a new place called home.
