“Trail Blanket II”

by: Poteet Victory

$31,000.00

“Trail Blanket II” is one in a series of “Trail Blankets”- remembering the blankets that were used on the trail of tears, with this one representing the blood that was spilled.

Poteet Victory is one of the most in-demand and collectable contemporary Native American artists in the world. Victory’s unusual name derives from his Oklahoma heritage. Born Robert Poteet, his last-name-turned-first comes from his mother’s side of the family, which has roots in Louisiana’s Cajun culture. The name Victory comes from his paternal grandmother, Willie Victory, a full-blooded Cherokee-Choctaw who was an important influence in the artist’s life during his teenage years. Although Victory’s work is abstract, his Cherokee-Choctaw influence still shines through his paintings. His work seems to emerge from a subconscious space and with a masterful command of composition, breathtaking color, and his very own glossy finish, he evokes a powerful response in the viewer.
