“I love making art because it gives me the opportunity to think great thoughts as well as to contemplate universal solutions. Sometimes themes present themselves over time as I am working on a design, concept, or pose that interests me. Other times they explode fully formed in my mind during sketching exercises. Happy Dance came about in the former scenario.

I was interested in a theme of two people in a great friendship. As I thought about how life affirming an honest, lasting, and deep friendship is, what it means, and what it takes to create and sustain such a friendship, the form of the two friends walking through life together, arm in arm, in step, and with total affinity for each other took shape. These types of friendships contain many positive elements such as closeness, good will, affection, harmony, love, affinity, coalition, community, and alliance, among others.

I think that we are all on a journey and that there are forces beyond our awareness charged with helping us along our path. Our part is to be open to this “leading” and to live in gratitude. In my personal experience I have been helped in almost countless ways in situations that I never saw coming. This doesn’t mean that one doesn’t need to bother to plan. Of course you plan. But it does mean that you are open to being helped even when that help takes you outside of what you thought would happen. It is a delicate balance between “making” things happen and allowing them to unfold. Many times I have been taken on a circuitous route only to wind up exactly where I wanted to be. At times I have been left speechless as to how it all has worked out.

I want to live in gratitude and in peace with others in order to allow the unfolding of life to bring into experience the people destined to help along the way. Being positive and optimistic also means not fostering negativity. I desire to remember to remain grateful for the serendipity that brings me good that I didn’t specifically plan for, but showed up in the unfolding of my life anyway. It is important to stay open to possibility and to expect miracles. Sometimes I sense the forces beyond my awareness are asking me to be the one that helps someone else along their path.

So I made Happy Dance. It is a heartfelt thank you to all who have joined me in my Happy Dances. It is a celebration of all of life’s Happy Dances.”
