“The Conflict”

by: Gene & Rebecca Tobey

The Conflict depicts two dancers wearing coyote and raven masks, connected at their backs, with fists and arms upraised. They reflect the two sides of an individual’s personality, pulling in opposite directions. It is a statement about the struggle within all people and shows the dualities inherent in all living things.

…There are many stores of the Raven as ‘trickster’ in Northwest Coast lore, whereas in the Southwest, Coyote is the ‘trickster’. In the Southwest, Raven represents magic, as well as a change in consciousness. We chose to put the two together in The Conflict as a story about these two ‘tricksters’.”
