Iroquois the elk, and Ottawa, the moose, are two animals that are perhaps the most elegant and compelling images from the woodlands of North America. We have studied elk and moose throughout our travels in the Rocky Mountains and western United States…

…Earlier (on a trip in Wyoming), as we rode into our campsite nine miles into the wilderness, we passed a bull moose with his cow and calf. They were grazing in an aspen grove, and we watched them with delight. At first glance, their elongated legs and massive heads create a comical appearance, until it becomes apparent that the length of their legs allows them to feed in areas that are prohibitive to other animals.”
