Anne Moran and Robert Brown (Moran & Brown) have been creating metal sculptures together since 1998.
"Our focus is contemporary abstract, geometric wall sculpture. We are concerned with rhythm, color, texture and line all working together to create an object of tranquil, sometimes dynamic beauty"
The art work of Moran & Brown evolves quickly due to their support of each other's ideas and continual influence. Both artists rely heavily on one another's problem solving abilities and Moran & Brown have come to trust and value the other's viewpoints.
The sculptures are made primarily of copper. An Oxy-Acetylene torch is used for cutting, brazing and coloring the copper. A variety of hand tools from hammers to tile cutting wheels are used for shaping and sculpting the copper.
Anne Moran studied at Carnegie-Mellon University and San Francisco Art Institute, receiving her BFA in 1990. Robert Brown received and art degree from Cochise College in 1993. Each worked as an Artist's assistant, Anne a coppersmith, Robert a bronze sculptor, for several years before becoming full-time artists.
Ann Moran and Robert Brown are equally gifted artists. Moran and Brown began collaborating on metal sculpture in 1999. They found copper to be the perfect medium as it has the painterly surface from which a wide spectrum of color can be extracted by the application of heat. Copper is also highly malleable, which allows them to work in bas-relief or sculpt three-dimensionally. Once completed, their wall sculptures have a luminous quality, hence their description, "Jewelry for the Wall."
Every aspect of their creations is collaboration, from the initial conception to the physical task of developing the finished form. With their unique style, Moran/Brown use a torch as their paintbrush with the flame applying the color. Each finished piece is a union of intellectual and intuitive inspiration, a product of the combined talents of Anne Moran and Robert Brown.
The work of Moran & Brown is displayed in private and corporate collections around the world.
