PROGRESSIVE PHOTOGRAPHY
"BLENDING ART AND ADVENTURE FEEDS THE CREATIVE SPIRIT"
Karl W. Hoffman was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and raised on Cape Cod, with a longing to go west. After breaking his neck horseback riding, he began a new career as a silversmith and worked under the direction of Bernard Kelly. Karl Hoffman later moved to New York City to complete a three-year apprenticeship with Kurt Wayne (whose client list includes Elizabeth Taylor, Van Cleet & Arpels, Neiman Marcus and Tiffany & Company). In the late 1970's, Hoffman finally pursued his dream to move west. He raised his family on their ranch and now shares a new studio with his wife, artist Audrey R. Hoffman. Karl W. Hoffman is a nationally recognized photographer and a fine art jeweler. He has shown his artwork for the past 35 years in some of the most prestigious galleries from New York City to California, and throughout the North and Southwest. Karl Hoffman's work has been featured in leading magazines such as Southwest Art and Cowboy's & Indians. He continues to do custom work for clients locally and internationally. Photography is an art form in which Karl Hoffman has always been interested. Inspired by one of his old friends in New York, International Photographer and Author John Chang McCurdy, he began by photographing his own jewelry. With 35 years of design experience, looking through the camera lens was a natural progression. A self-taught professional photographer, Hoffman has freelanced in photojournalism with his photos picked up by national wire services. Karl Hoffman has also done graphic design and commercial photography for the military, as well as museum documentary work. "It's a great way to make the most out of the trips around the country and to the galleries," says Karl. "My work is black and white digital with emphasis on meaningful translations of horses, landscape, industrial structure and the street. I also enjoy people." Hoffman was one of the top photographers chosen by Photographers Forum Magazine, from over 21,000 entries worldwide, to be included in a coffee table book scheduled for Spring, 2006 publication.
