Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1952, Doug's earliest memories were of joyful excursions with family and friends. The innocence of youth found new influences in California with a family move at an early age. The beauty in California's creation matured an expressive desire realized through the art of Doug's hands. Doug graduated from California State University Sacramento with a teaching credential in Art. He taught Art and Ceramics at the High School level. Teacher surplus providentially moved him to seek a living as a full time artist. "I became a potter/sculptor drawing on a creative searching drive to fuel inventive expressions."
The school pattern of "KOI" inspired a fluid, swirling sculpture. The KOI's soft, curving movements mesh pleasingly into calm gestures of tranquility. "I love watching and observing the KOI, perceiving and experiencing this gentle motion."
