| Birth of the Universe Description: | Dino Rosin, prominent glass artist of Murano, Italy, has put his own spin on the most epic of creations. Though made from such a sturdy medium as solid glass, this piece still manages to maintain a level of unequivocal delicacy. The main shape of the work is that of an egg, a shape that is duplicated within the piece itself.
Inside "The Birth of the Universe", a flower opens daintily, its petals spreading divinely in order to reveal the treasure that it has long encased. From the flower emerges a single oval form; giving the viewer the impression of youth and hope, this clear shape appears to rise from the flower as if it were destiny incarnate. The churning colors of the Calcedonia glass are reminiscent of the chaos evolving into order. As with all of Dino Rosin’s Calcedonia glass works, no two sculptures will ever contain the same colors. The distinguishing colors of Calcedonia, comparable to the stripes in a zoned agate, are created through the introduction of silver nitrate to crystal clear glass. Patterns found in each Dino Rosin sculpture cannot be controlled since the colors depend solely upon the chemical reaction of each batch. As a result, every sculpture - including "Birth of the Universe" - has the added element of chance upon that of unparalleled mastery. Dino Rosin’s “Birth of the Universe” evokes feelings of optimism and anticipation as only the idea of new life can.
Dino Rosin is a true "Maestro" from the celebrated glass art island of Murano, Italy. Rosin continues his family's tradition of glass blowing that dates back generations. "Birth of the Universe" is a stunning example of this world famous artist's skill and lineage, with a combination of clear and "Calcedonia" glass, a lost art rediscovered by Loredano Rosin, Dino's predecessor and older brother. Rosin's studio produces the clearest and most colorful Calcedonia glass in the world. Impossible to duplicate, each piece is completely unique in its color. |
