| | Voices from the Caves Writing/Poem: | Voices From the Caves
I go to the River. By the massive boulders and the limestone cliffs, I enter the caves and the rock shelters. There I view their ancient art and I feel their presences. I hear their voices. They speak to me in a language that some do not hear, that few understand, and of these, few heed.
They were my teachers across the bridges of time. They taught me much: to paint, to sculpt, to meditate, to muse, to revere. So I paint. I sculpt. I meditate. I muse. I revere.
You ask me, "What do they say, those spirits?"
How can I reply? How can I tell you their words? If you really want to hear, then listen:
YOU CONSIDER THAT WE WERE SO WISE. YOU SHOULD BE MUCH WISER. WHY, WE ONLY LIVED VERY SHORT LIVES. WE DIED AT AGES THAT SEE YOU IN YOUR PRIMES. YOU LIVE THREE TIMES AND FOUR TIMES AS LONG AS WE LIVED, AND YET WE SEEM TO HAVE LEARNED MORE IN OUR SHORT LIVES THAT YOU IN YOUR LONG LIVES. FROM OUR ANCIENT GRAVES WE WATCH IN WONDER AND ASTONISHMENT AS YOU TEAR YOUR EARTH APART, FOR IT SEEMS THAT THE LONGER YOU LIVE THE MORE YOU WASTE, THE LESS YOU CARE, THE MORE YOU LOSE RESPECT FOR THE VERY FORCES THAT PLACED YOU HERE.
Exerpt from "Voices From the Caves - the Shaman's Speak" by Bill Worrell.
