| | Song to the Patrons Writing/Poem: | There are many currents in society, and among them-
There are those who create;
here are those who sustain creativity.
They are vital to one another.
The sustainer, the patron,
Keeps alive the dreams of the creator.
The creator enriches the life and fulfills the dreams of the patrons.
Each does what, by his or her innate nature,
The other cannot do.
The creator would create were there no patron,
But not nearly so grandiose.
The patron would go about his or her world were there no creator
But in a less rich manner.
The two are as symbiotic as a lichen.
Were it not for the patrons
Scarce would be the symphonies, sonatas, and songs;
Scarce would be the novels, plays, and stores;
Few would be the performances of these plays,
Or operas,
Or movies;
Sparse would be the sculptures, paintings,
Or even cathedrals.
Were it not for the patrons- There would be no Mona Lisa, no Pieta.
No Last Supper, no Sistine Chapel ceiling.
No Burghers of Calais.
exerpt from the book "Journeys through the winds of time"
Dedicated to Barbara and Robert Knollenberg, who commissioned the first edition. June 18, 1998, 12:22p.m. South of Ft. Garland, Colorado. |
