| Solitude Original Description: | | A brilliantly colored and balanced painting, "Solitude" exemplifies Volkov's use of color and attention to detail applied to the winter landscape for which he is known. Notice how the light reflects on icy water to create the implied movement of a winter stream running through the forest. The sun's rays delicately color the sky with pink, lavender, blue, and orange, highlighted in wispy clouds and visible through the delicate tree branches. As extraordinary as this piece is in a photo, it is even more so in person with the subtlety of Volkov's brushwork apparent in every nuance and delicate hue. |
